CZ Mounted Games senior group
The mounted games ‘Come & Try’ weekend at Riddells creek on 13/14 May was organised for Central Zone by Warwick Slade on behalf of the Mounted Games Association (MGA). On Saturday, pony club members were offered instruction and competition experience. Riders attended from five other zones (EGZ, WGZ, NMZ, NEZ, MZ) as well as central, so it was a truly inter-zone activity. On Sunday, the MGA held a competition to which pony clubbers were also invited.
On Saturday, Warwick sorted the riders into 6 pairs of senior riders and 12 pairs of Junior riders.
Helped by a team of MGA members, the riders were instructed in the rules of a range of games. Some of them were familiar, like the mug shuffle, ball and cone, and flag fliers.
Some games were new, like the pony pair, sword lancers and jousting.
Jousting was apparently the best fun.
Many thanks to the young MGA coaches, who were there to assist or lead when needed, to Warwick Slade, who organised the entries, the heats and stood out in the cold all day as starter, and to the MGA people who scored and organised equipment.
At the end of the day, the riders in the junior heats were awarded sashes and the senior riders were presented with bags of feed.
Not many of the riders who attended on the weekend made it to the PCV Mounted Games champs the following week, but we hope all had fun and took something away from the experience. To do more, you could:
- join the Mounted Games Association and go to their training days
- ask your DC to schedule a games session at your rally, if you don’t already have one. If your club needs a games coach, ask our Zone Chief Instructor, Niree Weybury (0408 559 915/ email@example.com) or Warwick Slade (0407 433 955/ firstname.lastname@example.org )
- get together a club team for the CZ games champs in October.
